ACL Reconstruction Surgery

ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction surgery
is a procedure performed to repair a torn or injured ACL, a ligament that connects the thigh bone to the shin bone in the knee joint. The surgery involves replacing the damaged ACL with a new tendon graft obtained from the patient's own body or from a donor.

Before the surgery, the patient will undergo a thorough evaluation, including a physical exam, imaging tests, and medical history review. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, which means that the patient will be asleep and feel no pain during the procedure.
During the surgery, the surgeon will make small incisions in the knee and insert an arthroscope, a tiny camera that allows the surgeon to see inside the knee joint. The damaged ACL is removed, and the new graft is secured in place using screws or other fixation devices.

After the surgery, the patient will need to follow a rehabilitation program to regain strength and mobility in the knee joint. This typically involves physical therapy and exercises designed to improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility. It is important to follow the rehabilitation program carefully to achieve the best possible outcome.

Overall, ACL reconstruction surgery is a safe and effective procedure that can help patients regain knee stability and reduce the risk of further knee damage. However, like any surgery, there are risks and potential complications, and it is important to discuss these with your surgeon before deciding to undergo the procedure.
